Once upon a time, a young Chilean couple and their four daughters vacationed in the Dominican Republic and fell in love with the beachtown of Cabarete, so much so that in 1997, they decided to call it home. Their families thought they had bumped their heads since it was such a radical change from the “normal” life they lived in Viña del Mar, Chile. They had nothing waiting for them there – no job, no plan. Regardless, they bravely (some say naively) decided to throw caution to the wind and purchased the raw beachfront land to transform it into Natura Cabana Boutique Hotel & Spa, the ecological paradise it is now.
Natura Cabana’s concept grew organically from the couple’s respective passion: he, the natural-born architect, and she, the lover of homeopathic medicine. In an effort to stay true to Cabarete’s tropical surroundings, they used the felled trees for the construction of the bungalows and the palm fronds for their thatched roofs. Each bungalow was decorated using their eclectic taste, with shells and corals on the walls and hidden drawings on the stucco, making it the perfect retreat for any special event or to simply disconnect.

We were so proud of what we had built that we couldn’t wait to invite friends and family. They too fell in love with the beach town of Cabarete and would find it hard to leave the seaside retreat we had created. Eventually, one guesthouse morphed into two, then three new cabanas. Guests began to inquire about the rumored secret cabanas by the beach. Before we knew it, people from all over the world had learned about our “adventurous family’s brilliant idea” and our home started “growing up” into an ecolodge. The hidden slice of tropical heaven where we had chosen to raise our children soon became Natura Cabana Boutique Hotel & Spa.
