With Mira Yoga Cabarete
Known as “King of Asanas,“ the Headstand or Sirshasana is one of the most effective and beneficial postures for body and mind. Due to the inversion, the headstand relieves the heart, supports circulation and releases tension in the lower back. A regular practice can prevent back problems, increase memory and concentration. The asana doesn’t require much strength, more so it takes the overcoming of fear and the belief in one’s ability.
The key to holding the balance is making a triangle in which your hands and your head mark the corners to form an equilateral triangle. Balance in headstand requires coordination of the impulses received in the brain from the inner ear, the skin of the arms and hands, the eyes, and various muscles and joints.
The Workshop’s Focus
In the headstand workshop, we focus mainly on the eight steps to come into a proper posture. Each asana has three parts:
1. How to come into the pose with control
2. How to hold the pose with control
3. How to come out of the pose with control
We want to avoid hectic movement, so jumping or forcing ourselves into any exercise. The headstand especially requires control and technique for safety.
The intention of our workshop is ensure everyone understands the eight steps to a perfect headstand and can practice by themselves without using a wall or any other props.
- Demonstrations are given to show precisely how to do that. Leading through each step under guidance to build up the students confidence.
- We point out common mistakes to make participants aware of what to avoid and why.
- Wexplain the reason we apply the particular technique.
- Overall, we achieve a correct pose, improve the details, and relaxation in the posture.
