Cabarete is mainly known for its ideal wind and wave conditions to practice water sports throughout the year, such as surf, kitesurf and windsurf. Many travelers even visit Cabarete and the north coast every year to participate in water sports competitions taking place in the area. Part of the population that now lives there is from around the world and have chosen this area to practice their favorite sports on a daily basis.
Cabarete and the North Coast of the Dominican Republic is much more than that and goes beyond the practice of watersports.
Its vast territory, lush vegetation, and friendly people are among the reasons that make this country so unique.
Whether you are on your first trip or if you just stopped counting how many times you’ve come to the Dominican Republic, there are lots of activities for you other than catching waves. The area that interests us in this blog is the north coast, where Natura Cabana is located.
Here are our Top 5 activities:
1- 27 Waterfalls
People describe the 27 Waterfalls as a must-do activity while visiting the North coast of the DR. This excursion is great for people who like an adrenaline rush and who want to see the beautiful scenery that the country has to offer. The 27 waterfalls is a protected area dedicated to preserving the beautiful park and helping the local communities. In fact, part of the entrance fee goes directly to a community fund.
We recommend: going as early as possible and during the week to avoid large crowds, putting on bug spray + sunscreen, and wearing clothes you don’t mind getting very wet!
2- Horseback Riding
There is something magical about horseback riding in a natural environment. Whether you are experienced or not, you will enjoy this activity. The organizers will guide you and ensure the safety of everyone. You will move between the mountains and the beach making a few stops on the way, and you will probably not want it to end 😉
We recommend: wearing long pants and running shoes and putting on bug spray + sunscreen
3- Cayo Arena
Isn’t it everyone’s dream to be on a deserted island once in a lifetime? On this perfect daytime activity, you will leave Punta Rucia (1 hour from Puerto Plata) and aboard a high-speed boat to go to Cayo Arena. You will discover a white sand paradisiac beach and a coral reef right in the middle of clear turquoise water. You’ll have time to do some snorkeling, eat lunch (included) and rest on the beach.
We recommend: putting on sunscreen and bringing a hat or anything to cover up since there is no shade on this island
4- Monkey Jungle
You’ll probably be happy to know that this farmland between Sosua and Cabarete is not only the home of squirrel capuchin monkeys, but the site also serves as a recovery center for the rescued capuchins. There is also a seven-station zip-line, a beautiful garden, and an ancient Taino cave. All proceeds from tours go to fund an on-site medical and dental clinic.
We recommend: bringing a camera and making sure your hands are clean to avoid contamination of bacterias
Are you an adventurous person who has always dreamt of flying? If so, this activity is for you. The certified instructors will drive you to the lift-off point and you’ll be stepping off into the sky together. You will be impressed by the lush landscapes of Jarabacoa Valley in the heart of the country. It is also worth visiting the town of Constanza at almost 4000 feet, where you can enjoy waterfalls, public markets, pyramids, caves, and a scientific reserve.
We recommend: doing this activity close to sunset when the temperature is comfortable and the scenery is even more spectacular
We hope you’ll get the chance to try one of these amazing activities once in your life. If you have done an excursion that you also think deserves to be in this Top 5, let us know in the comments below so we can talk about it in a future blog!
