We can no longer ignore it, there is an urgent need to change our way of consuming. We have entered an era where the damage to the planet is starting to become irreversible which will lead to having a direct impact on the next generations.
In 2019, why not make resolutions that have a real impact on the planet. Every gesture counts and we are all part of the solution. Beyond the result that they may have on the environment, it will give you the feeling that you are doing your part for this planet and helping this world to become a better place.
Here are our 5 recommendations for a more eco-friendly lifestyle in 2019
Make your own cleaning products
Did you know that the cleaning products you use in your homes are filled with chemicals and that in the long run, they can be as harmful as cigarette smoke? Not to mention the impacts on the environment. There is a ton of homemade recipe to make your own housekeeping products and they are as effective as those you’ll find at the store. Lemon, vinegar and baking soda are some examples of ingredients that can be used in your DIY products. Plus, they are cheap, easy to find and non-toxic.
Drink from a reusable bottle or cup
For a while now, we have been hearing about the impacts of water bottles on the oceans. The solution is quite simple; invest in a good reusable bottle and always carry it in your bag. Whenever it is possible, fill it with tap water or sourced water. That way, you’ll always have water when you are thirsty. You can do the exact same thing for your warm beverages. Most companies are even giving you a discount if you have your own cup.
Buy local and from eco-friendly businesses
When you are choosing to buy local, you are casting a vote to what type of economy you want in your area. It is not only to encourage small businesses, but it also minimizes the impacts on the environment. By buying locally, you reduce the ecological footprint by reducing the distance traveled between producers and businesses. By promoting local products, less fuel will be needed so fewer pollutants from the atmosphere.
Use electronic documents instead of printing
Most companies now offer to send you your bills via email or provide you with a link to upload your documents directly to your mobile devices. In addition, you can choose to buy a magazine or a book in electronic format or print on both sides when it is necessary. Although paper is recyclable, not all countries have the facilities to recycle it.
Always carry a reusable bag
Like reusable water bottles, reusable bags are easy to carry around in your handbag or pockets. Convenient for unexpected purchases and avoiding the use of plastic bags that pollute our oceans. Many countries have also chosen to charge for plastic bags which has helped changed people’s habits.
These are small actions that are easy to bring into our lives. If more of us would take small actions like this every day, we could make a really big difference for this planet and the future generations.
No matter where we come from, how old we are and the kind of education we received, we all have the power to change and to inspire others to do the same.
