There are many criteria to consider when planning a trip. Sometimes as an individual or as a group, we have special needs, tastes, and values that will influence the choice of one destination rather than another.
Nowadays, most people strive to live as healthy as possible in their daily lives and want to pursue this lifestyle when not at home too. If we choose a trip based on our interests, it becomes equally important to ensure that the place can somehow meet our dietary needs or restrictions as well.
That being said, we must be open-minded while respecting everyone’s values, and for some of us, this means to have chosen to be a vegetarian or a vegan.
One thing we can all agree on is that we all love a good brunch, and in Cabarete, we are so blessed for having multiple choices when it comes to our favorite meal of the day. Here are our top 5 choices to enjoy a delicious brunch, highlighting vegan and vegetarian meals for those with dietary needs.
Fresh Fresh Café
This place is a must-go-to in Cabarete. Located on the street opposite of the beach, the interior courtyard is beautifully decorated with plants and comfortable seats. You can easily come as a big group to enjoy a meal or alone to surf the internet while sipping on a smoothie. Talking about the smoothies, they have an entire menu of them. You may even create your own.
We love: Açai Bowl, Falafel Bowl (which can also be turned into a wrap!) & Farmer’s Scrambled
Don’t forget to bring your camera to your visit to Vagamundo! This place has put an aesthetic touch in every aspect of their restaurant. Their specialty? Salty or sweet waffles, bowls of smoothies and an impressive choice of specialized coffee.
Our favorites: Tavarua Smoothie Bowl, Uluatu Waffle (ricotta, passion fruit and mint) & Paris Waffle (poached egg, spinach and feta)
If you like small charming restaurants, stop by Claro Café, where the atmosphere will certainly make you feel on holiday. The menu offers breakfast and lunch made with fresh local foods and you can get as many coffee refills as you want. The owner, Sandy, has lived in Cabarete for many years and is always available to give you good tips about activities in the area.
Top picks: French Toast, Oats Cup & Veggie Burger

Cabarete Coffee Company
We love everything about this place. They serve the best latte in town. They are not downtown of Cabarete, but it’s definitely worth the extra mile. They offer sandwiches, smoothies, and salads, and even offer free delivery. A plus about this place is that part of their earnings go to the Mariposa Foundation, an academic program for Dominican girls that teaches them about health, art, and the environment.
Must order: Surfer Supreme, Cabarete Crisp Sandwich & Tropical Splash Smoothie
We could not write this article without mentioning our own day restaurant opened for breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, you can either purchase the buffet menu or individual dishes. You can even order gluten free bread, pancakes or waffles with no extra cost. We also have a smoothie menu that offers healthy green smoothies, or not-so-healthy nutella ones! For lunch, Karaya Restaurant offers a variety of dishes which include tapas, salads, curries, pasta and even burgers. We are very proud that many of the ingredients come from our own organic garden.
Our top picks: Natura Breakfast, Dominican Breakfast (which is also our special on Sunday Brunch!), Caesar Cabana with its homemade vegan sauce & Zucchini Bowl
